Not missing a beat, the bithday bear rushes......zu seinem Kuchen, natürlich bei Geburtstagslicht...-
..to his birthday cake, for sure while the light turns into a birthday light...Und ihm gefällt, was er vor sich hat...-
He too is de-lighted...Und höflich, wie er ist, zeigt er sich und seinen Kuchen erstmal seinen Fans...-
As a polite bear he knows what he is expected to, so first he shows himself and the cake to his numerous guests...Übrigens dieses Mal kein Kuchenklau durch Mitbewohnerinnen, die Ladies waren zur Party nicht zugelassen...-
By the way, this time no one could steal his cake as the ladies were not allowed into his birthday party area...Also nun hier Knut und sein Kuchen ....-

Es gab auch ein Spielzeug...- There was even a toy... Nein, kein Ei...weder ein normales noch ein verrücktes...-
No, no egg, neither a normal nor a crazy one...Auch ohne Ei ist Knuts Schnute trotzdem gelb geworden...

But even without egg, Knut's snout got a little yellowish...

5. Dezember - Knut turns 4 today - Happy Birthday wünscht der Aussenposten!

Ja, es ist soweit!!!! -
Yes, finally the day has come!!!! Nach einem kleinen Schock und etwas Fingerrechnen konnte offenbar auch der Teil der Öffentlichkeit überzeugt werden, der erst wohl Zweifel daran hatte, ob nun heute dein 4. oder nicht doch erst dein 3. Geburtstag ist...

After a little shock and a little counting, the public could eventually be convinced that it's really your 4th birthday today and not your 3rd....Ihr hier in unserem Aussenposten kommt es auf ein paar Jahre mehr oder weniger nicht an, in ihrem Alter zählen eher die Jahrzehnte...Und weil es bei dir so kalt ist gerade, haben wir uns gedacht, dir als erstes ein wenig Sonne und Wärme nach Bärlin zu schicken, weniger wegen dir, eher damit deine Gäste nicht so frieren und du auch wirklich Massen an Geschenke bekommst...!-

Some years more or less - no problem for that lady here, at her age only dozens count...And considering all the snow and freezin' temperatures in Bärlin, your outpost thought a little heart warming heat would make a nice start at least it might come in handy for your visitors as we want you to get loads of gifts. Imagine nobody coming because of the cold ...!

Und weil heute ein besonderer Tag ist, darf auch Miss Molly kurz mal hier auftauchen und unser aller Glückwünsche vermitteln, das hat sie gleich so in Aufregung versetzt, dass sie prompt vergessen hat, deinen Namen auf die Tafel zu schreiben ...-

And as today is a special day, Miss Molly has got permission to wish you a very happy birthday which has caused so much excitement that she promptly forgot to write down your name on the board... Aber es gibt noch mehr Gratulanten in deinem Aussenposten..., erinnerst du dich an letztes Jahr...?-

Sie sind zwar näher am Kuchen, aber haben beschlossen dich ihn in Ruhe essen zu lassen, also kein Kuchenverteidigungstraining à la Donna Giovanna nötig....-

They are closer to the cake but you can relax as they decided to let you eat it in peace, so no need to defend your birthday cake as Gio did on her 4th birthday on 28 November...

Halbstark....Reflections of a 'semi-strong'...

Ich hab bald Geburtstag...in 2 Tagen werde ich schon VIER-
Birthday time is around the corner...only 2 days and then I will be four!

Vor ein paar Tagen hörte ich, dass man dann ein Halbstarker ist...Heute soll sogar im Fernsehen ein Film kommen, der zeigt, wie ich ein Halbstarker geworden bin, ziemlich cool...-

Just a couple of days ago I heard that one is called then a rowdy, sort of semi-strong species...Today even a film will be broadcasted on rbb showing how I have become such a semi-strong, can you believe it?

Übrigens Halbstarke lassen sich gerne die Haare ....-
By the way, rowdies like their hair ....

...und Nägel wachsen, sagt man...-
...and nails grown, that's what I've heard...
Halbstarke wünschen sich auch ältere Damen so weit weg wie möglich...-
Rowdies wish not to be too close to older ladies, as far away as possible I would say...

Vor allen Dingen wenn sie plötzlich meinen, einen abküssen zu müssen...-
Especially when they come for some sudden kissin' business...

Ich meine, selber schuld, wenn sie dann einbrechen...-
Approachin' someone of the semi-strong species has always been somehow risky, hasn't it? Außer sie bringen ein Bier mit...-
Except they come with beer...
Aber eher beißen sie dich in den Hintern...-
But far from that...they would even prefer biting your ass...(just for the records: as a semi-strong I am supposed to speak like that!)

Typisch Erwachsene, voll der Widerspruch: Bier gibt es keins , aber dein Spielzeug klauen sie dir...-
Typical grown-ups, absolutely contradictory: No beer, but your toys they steal...-
Und dabei kann man so schön mit Eiern spielen...-
And that although it is such fun to play with eggs... So wunderbar so ein Ei im Schnee...-

Das hier ist übrigens kein Ei, das ist nur ein Kürbis. Nicht schlecht, aber eben kein Ei...Das Bild ist vom Zoo, sie sagen, es gibt eine Feier zu meinem Geburtstag, vielleicht bekomme ich dann ja ein anderes Ei...-

Unter Umständen wäre ich ja sogar bereit noch ein wenig länger nur Kinderpunsch zu trinken...-

Under certain circumstances I might even consider to drink just a little bit longer some children's punch...Deal!?!

Innerhalb von wenigen Minuten ist der Liebling aller Stuttgarter, Eisbär Anton, komplett eingeschneit." -

Ok, I admit, 13 years of living on a remote island in the middle of the Indian Ocean with temperatures at 13 ° and 16°C at their lowest in our winter season which is summer season in the northern hemisphere, have taken its toll. First thought...this must be photoshopped (and by the way where is all the snow falling directly from the sky..I mean the snow flakes as there certainly must have been some between 15:01 and 15:04...?)

After checking the latest weather report I thought, oh my, poor poor Anton, this will certainly go around, becoming gossip within the polar bear community, imagine how all the Vitus'es and Knutis will crack up, not even imagining the ladies...A polar bear who has to be digged out of snow by humans...! Then I thought, what if the volunteers don't get him out, will he be able to dig his own rescue tunnel, remember it was Vitus and not Anton who has worked hard on these competencies (now we know why...!!)...

I still have no clue if this story was made up by Jens, if yes, certainly inspired by pics like this one, in order to entertain us in these hard times when snow shoveling becomes again the order of the day (for those who have no intention of shoveling the next coming 3 months, just get on a plane with destination Rodrigues, daytime temperatures at 28°C, no snow guaranteed!) and then you can even think about why in the wild it is common practice for polar bears to allow the snow to cover them...

Anyway - I will certainly be visiting Jens blog again tomorrow just to see if he could also take photos of the rescue operation involving hundreds of volunteers, I am looking forward to see Anton's face when they approach him...!!!

Alle Jahre wieder...1. Dezember

Schon wieder 1. Dezember und schon wieder ein Jahr nicht nur ohne eiskalte Temperaturen ..., -

Already 1.December again and already a year not only without freezin' temperatures...,

Eisbär bei wichtiger Arbeit...

...sondern auch ohne Adventskalender für uns hier in Knuts Außenposten. Auch wenn Weihnachten mittlerweile hier bezogen auf die unerlässlichen Weihnachtsreliquien wie Weihnachtskugeln oder Plastiktannenbäume an Bedeutung gewonnen hat, Adventskalender gibt es immer noch nich auf Rodrigues... -

...but also without advent calendar for us in Knut's Outpost, although Christmas has gained some importance even here considering the accessibility of some compulsory xmas items as xmas balls or plastic xmas trees, advents calendars are still unknown in Rodrigues....

Und so schau ich wie jedes Jahr herum und freu mich wie ein Kind, wenn ich wieder den ein oder anderen Kalender mit Eisbärmotiven entdecke. Dieses Jahr gab es gleich mehrere...-
