Tango Time in Bremerhaven...

And Tango Makes Three...that was the story in Brooklyn Zoo some years ago, when zoo keeper Richardson helped Roy and Silo, a gay penguin couple in their endless efforts to produce their own offspring...Now it's time to tango for the zoo in Bremerhaven, after a several years of ongoing debate with sex tests in the beginning and even "woman traficking" from Sweden to get the gays straight and to normal breeding, the zoo and everybody else can now congratulate a gay couple to their first chick...

Und hier die überglücklichen Eltern...Vielpünktchen und Z...And here the overjoyed parents ..

Übrigens...so sieht eine schüchterne verschmähte Schwedin aus...- By the way, that's how a timid spurned Swedish penguin woman looks like...

Concerning Roy, Silo and Tango, the Brooklyn family, I will check for some more links (I have sort of a hundred of it...), I am pretty sure that I have already mentioned it here in the K-Files more than once as it is not only one of my favouritite children's books, it was also sent by Simba to Knut for Father's Day 2006...

I read "And Tango Makes Three" a few years ago and thought it was great. So interesting to see it happening again in real life. I'm so glad the zookeepers got over any homophobia and decided to let the gay couple be gay. And, that they helped them to find an egg they could hatch. I wish this happy new family all the best!

That's GREAT that the couple of penguins finally have their own chick. I'm very happy for them and wish them all the best; good and very beautiful moments together... I share their joy.

You make a beautiful family...!

Gay penguins hatch rejected egg

Wed Jun 3, 11:09 am ET

BERLIN (AFP) – Two homosexual penguins have successfully hatched an egg that was rejected by its parents and are now proudly rearing the chick, the German zoo housing the couple said on Wednesday.

"Z and Vielpunkt, both males, gladly accepted their 'Easter present' and began straight away with hatching the egg," said the zoo in Bremerhaven, in northern Germany.

"Since the chick arrived they are behaving in the same way as one would expect a heterosexual couple to do. Both happy fathers are now diligently handling the everyday care ... of their adopted offspring," the zoo said.
Z and Vielpunkt are part of a six-strong gay community among the zoo's collection of endangered Humboldt penguins who rose to fame in 2005 when four Swedish females were brought in an unsuccessful attempt to "cure" them.

"Homosexuality is nothing unusual among animals," the zoo said. "Sex and coupling up in our world do not necessarily have anything to do with reproduction."
