22.Dezember - Anton...

...wird 19 heute. Und er befragt den Mond...-
...turns 19 today. And he questions the moon...
...if this time he will get some mail. A parcel for example, with lots of nice, colourful things inside. All for him alone. All choosen with love.Maybe even some pralinés or something to look at... Postcards of animals would do fine, even with wolves on it...Ohhh, wie würde er dann tanzen und in die Luft sprin-gen...! -

Ohhh, how he would be dancing then and jumping high up into the sky...!

He would be the most happiest bear under the sky, singing all the old songs of autumn leaves and winter kisses in hot summer nights...

This posting is dedicated to a very special person!!! And so sorry Anton, it's me who got the parcel!

Der geheimnisvolle Besucher...The secret visitor...

This is Photo 2.The bear in the background- that's me. The man in the foreground is my secret visitor. He came in November, just a couple of days before my second birthday. You know, one of these days when you could count the visitors on the claws of one of my paws: LeenaP, Viktor, Dumba...Yes, and this young men, OK, relatively young man...Why he came, I will not tell you now, as it is still highly probable that Mami Simba stops working then, I won't take chances, it's still hot in Rodrigues...And concerning this young man...I only say, he was on a mission...

Danish off-spring and a webcam....

This is a webcam screenshot of a little polar bear cub, born in Aalborg/Denmark on December 7. Mother is Victoria and although she is such a heavy bear, she makes people really weak when watching, how carefully she treats her little one in the birth den of the zoo. We all wish that she will not be disturbed, and that the cub will survive. Remember: the new born twins (Nov 26) of Vera, Flocke's mother died recently in Nuremberg, 50 % of all cubs don't survive. So, keep it up, Victoria and good luck to you both from this side of the world!

Screenshot: Bauz - Danke!!!

Note: Thanks to ChristinaM- there is a whole album with screeenshots here....!

So sweating continues and work in the outpost too...at least as long as we don' know what is behind the secret photo of yesterday...

There is a story behind this photo....

...and I won't disclose it as long as Mami Simba keeps up her ridiculous application of ceasing work in the outpost just because of a little sweating....Have you noticed...she even went to the Southpole to my feathered friends the penguins...ts,ts,ts...

Es gibt noch andere Aussenposten...There are other outposts too...

...Und da ist es sogar kälter...- ... And cooler ones' even too...!

This extraordinary pic of a lonesome penguin was taken by Erich and Heide Wilts, probably the most famous German sailors with soft spots for everything else than hot spots, and can be found in one of my favourite books, 'Segelziele voller Wunder'.

-And here...welcome to the penguin outpost of the German Antarctic Receiving Station (GARS) O'Higgins. This station has started in 1991, mainly doing cartography work, geological and weather research. Since 2004 the first webcam could be installed, thanks to the fund raising activities of a school class project in Germany the first camera could be installed. This year the first smaller group of penguins was sighted on September 19. As there has been more snow compared to the seasons before, it will depend now on the occurence of storms, if the nests with the eggs will survive, this year more penguins have laid their eggs in unprotected areas, just where snow melted first as they were already a little late due to the weather. You will find infos, pics and videos also in the blog of Martin Grund.

15. Dezember - Hitzefrei!

Sehr geehrter Herr Knut,

With great discomfort, especially since we know now who is responsible for this, I address to you in following matter. If global warming continues to progress so rapidly, we will be forced to stop reporting continously in your Royal Outpost due to excessively hot weather. While the gentlemen Polar Bears indulge in questionable activities, we are sweating so much that new ponds could be filled alone with our downflooding sweat perls. An extremely dangerous thing for islands being located just a tiny bit above sea level, as you certainly know. Please take note of our application to cease work for the time being in order to protect our island!

Sincerely
your very concerned (already dissolved in sweat)

Mami Simba
