Los geht's mit Hudson aus dem Brookfield Zoo, genau, der Hudson, dessen 4.Geburtstag irgendwie nicht richtig gefeiert wurde, aber egal, der Zoo hat es wieder gut gemacht, und hier das von Ulli J entdeckte Video vom Weihnachtsfest mit Fischen, Peanutbutter und anderen Leckereien...

Diese Meldung fand ich am 23. auf facebook, und ich gestehe, ich war so hin und weg, dass ich die Meldung erst für ein photoshop fake hielt, zumal ich die Originalquelle nicht ergoogeln konnte. Doch ein Blick in Christina M's unvergleichlichen Blog brachte die Wahrheit zutage. In der Tat, der Münchener Zoo hat wieder zugeschlagen und keine Mühe gescheut, ihren beiden Eisbären auch ein unvergessliches Weihnachtsfest zu bescheren. Die Bilder sind z.T. so märchenhaft, dass ich allen nur empfehlen kann, sich das gesamte Album anzusehen. Die Fotos sind alle von der Bärenkuratorin Frau Köhler aufgenommen, der nicht genug dafür gedankt werden kann, dass sie uns über Christinas Blog an Yoghis und Giovannas Staunen und glücklichem Fressgelage teilhaben lässt. -

Ever heard of x-mas strings made of yummie jelly bears?????
This screenshot article above I found on the day before Christmas Eve on facebook, I was so stunned, that I first thought it to be a photoshopped fake, as who had ever heard and seen such a wonderful x-mas tree with Bavarian sausages and brezels as decoration and a polar bear so sweet and careful? But on Christina's unique blog this Christmas event showed up with even more stunning pics. Really, the zoo in Munich didn't miss a beat for another enriched event for their beloved bears, spoiled on so many different occasions already since they have been back from Berlin.Thanks to Mrs Köhler, the bear curator in Munich zoo, who took the photos and Christina M who displays them, we can all view these fairytale-like- moments of a memorable Christmas tree and feast of two very happy bears!

Aber nun nach New York, hier hieß es Weihnachten bereits am 6. Dezember...-

But let's see New York, here the polar bears had a very early Christmas , already on 6 December the first gifts were unwrapped...

Ich wollte gern wissen, was denn die anderen Bären bekommen haben, so googelte ich also weiter und fand ....wieder Gus, diesmal noch einen Tag früher..aber für Ida gab es zumindest auch Sahne und Forelle..._

I wanted to see the other bears at Central Park too, so I continued googling and I came up...with Gus again on 05 December 2009.....but here we learn that also Ida got some whipped cream and trout during the festive event...

Aber damit nicht genug, im new Yorker Central Park Zoo scheint die Tradition des Schenkens um Weihnachten herum tief verankert zu sein, ich konnte auch noch einen Gus im Jahr 2004 finden, der sein Präsent gründlich auf Erdnussbutter, Fisch und anderem untersuchte...-

The gift giving tradition for Christmas seems to go back at New York Central Park at least until 2004 as then Gus could be found again, thoroughly examining his gift including peanut butter, fish and other items....

Eine ganze Reihe Extravaganzen gab es ebenfalls im Jahr 2004 für die Eisbären in Sea World San Diego, hier sieht man den damals 9 jährigen Charly, übrigens ein geborener Hamburger, bevor er sich an die köstlichen Lebkuchenmänner und -frauen machte. Es gab zudem noch einen echten Christbaum, einen Schneemann, Geschenkepakete sowie Strümpfe aus Brot..Die echte Szenja, die man hier leider nur als Lebkuchen sieht, ist übrigens ebenfalls aus Deutschland, eine Schwester von Troll, also eine geborene Wuppertalerin...-

In keeping with the holiday season, the bears are enjoying a number of extravagances, including a live Christmas tree, snowman, gift boxes and stockings made of bread. Charly is originally from Hamburg , born in 1995 and he shares his enclosure with Snowflake and Szenja (unfortunately only to be seen in form of a gingerbread), who is also of German origin, a sister of Troll, born in Wuppertal...

Und aus Wuppertal kommt dieser Fund, das ist nämlich der Vater von Szenja (damals Svenja) , der unverwechselbare Boris, 2008 war sein letztes Weihnachten und klar, er ist größer als der Baum, aber hat da jemand wirklich ernstlich dran gezweifelt?-

And from Wuppertal Szenja's father, good old and uncomparable Boris, 2008 was his last Christmas and sure, Boris is bigger than the tree but seriously, did anybody had doubts about that?

Noch ein Foto aus dem Jahr 2004, dies ist Kalluk aus dem San Diego Zoo, damals mit Schneemann, dieses Jahr gab es einen Ball, zu sehen in einem netten Video mit swingender Weihnachtsmusik...-

On this photo Kalluk from San Diego was 4 years old, so it must have been taken in 2004 as he is now nearly 10 years old. This year Kalluk got a ball as an early Christmas present ( cute video with nice music...)

Schon vor einem Monat....Boris, Mercedes Schwager, ist tot....

Für die einen Eisbär mit Gruselfaktor...-
For some the polar bear with rather spine-chilling factor, sort of creepy... Für die anderen lieb und mit markantem Gesicht: Eisbär Boris aus dem Zoo in Wuppertal...-

For others he was more the lovely one with a prominent and striking face: Polar bear Boris from Wuppertal... Manche hielten ihn...-
Some considered him as......einfach nur...-
...a bear who was just...
...für unglaublich faul...-
...extraordinarily lazy...
Vor einem Monat starb Boris, der männliche Eisbär des Zoos Wuppertal. Der am 1.1.1978, und damit zum Club der über 30jährigen gehörenden, in Whipsnade England geborene Eisbär, kam am 21. Dezember 1979 zum Rurzoo Gelsenkirchen und am 27. Juni 1980 in den Zoologischen Garten der Stadt Wuppertal.-

One month ago Boris died, the only male polar bear of zoo in Wuppertal. Born on New Years day of 1978, hence one of the few male bears achieving 30 years and more, came originally from Whipsnade in England via Gelsenkirchen. On June 27 in 1980 he arrived in Wuppertal.Polar bear enclosure in Whipsnade 1960

Boris Eltern waren Mosha und Amos. Boris hatte noch einen älteren Bruder, den 1976 geborenen Barney, uns allen kein Unbekannter, war er doch der langjährige Gefährte von Mercedes in Edinburgh, Barney starb am 19. Januar 1996 tragischerweise, nachdem er ein Plastikspielzeug verschluckte, das er in seinem Graben gefunden hatte.-

Boris' parents were Mosha and Amos. He also had an older brother, Barney, born in 1976, to all of us no stranger, as he was the long time companion of Mercedes until he died so tragically on January 19 in 1996 when he suffocated after swallowing a plastic cricket toy which he had found in his moat. Hier ein Foto aus Whipsnade von dem ich glaube, es könnte Mosha mit Boris sein, denn zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme gab es an sich keine andere Eisbärin mit Jungtier in Whipsnade..-

Here a photo of Whipsnade showing a female with her cub, given the fact (at least to my knowledge) that there hadn't been any other females with young except of Mosha, I think it might show her together with a little Boris...

Boris selbst war übrigens nicht immer faul und selbst bis zum Schluss, wohl ganz und gar nicht "lendenlahm", mit seiner ersten Frau Nina, einer 1978 geborenen Russin, gab es 3 mal Nachwuchs. der Kleine hier mit Mama Nina ist Boris Sohn Troll,... -

Boris was not always lazy, when it came to his ladies, he was quite successful, with his first wife Nina, a lady originally from Russia, he had 3 kids. Here Nina with their son Troll (born 15.11. 86) , ...
...der im Tierpark Friedrichsfelde in Berlin lebt, und dem wie seinem Vater Boris nicht nur eine große Faulheit nachgesagt wird, sondern auch eine Scheu vor Wasser, es sei denn, es geht um Melonen-

..who lives in Tierpark Friedrichsfelde in Berlin and who has not only got the reputation to be as lazy as his father, but who also seems to detest water as long as no melons swim in it, waiting for him to come...










Hier Candy und Svenja, die beide in Übersee leben....-

Here the other two beauties ...Candy (born 02.11.92) , and since 1994 in Japan... & Svenja (born 15.10.1995) since 1997 in Seaworld Orlando/Florida...

Hier im tête-à-tête mit der schönen Jerka, seiner letzten knapp 20 jährigen Frau aus Nürnberg, die nun erstmal alleine ist und die mit so vielen Eisbärinnen das Schicksal früher Witwenschaft teilt. Hoffentlich nicht für lange, sie ist einfach zu schön um alleine zu bleiben...In Bezug auf Boris gab es zwar keinen Nachwuchs, aber ganz untätig war Boris wohl nicht...-

Here with Jerka, a beauty close to 20 now (born Nov 23, 1989) and from Nuremberg, now alone, sharing with so many ladies the destiny of an early widowhood....Hopefully not for too long as she seems to be a real lady with her delicate features ...No offspring with Boris but he was said to be not only sleeping...

Boris soll sehr friedlich eingeschlafen sein, nur an welchem Datum genau, darüber gibt es unterschiedliche Auskünfte, die zwischen dem 9.9. und vor dem 24. September liegen...-

Boris died peacefully in his sleep, about the day there is not only one information, so I take it that it was somewhen before the 24th September as before noone commented on his death...

Farewell Boris and thank you so much for having entertained so many people, your face will certainly never be forgotten...RIP!
