Außenposten Regenbogen.....News from behind the Rainbow Bridge

While still being over the moon due to the news about Hope and Lily, there are also news coming from our other Outpost, the one behind the Rainbow Bridge...Sad news though, especially for those being left behind, but what do we know...maybe they are all watching us, clapping their paws....or maybe it was just the trick of a genius ( I don't say names now), that for a certain moment no places on the bridge were available so that Hope could be rescued...However, Max and Minette, two more cats of the original "Wilde 13 ", owners of our good friend Barbara, won't be watching Knut on the PC like they did before, Max left this place already on May 4, too ill to continue occupying Barbara's place at the PC...which is said to have had a significant impact on his way experiencing quality of life during his last 3 years...

As to beauty Minette, she left this world just a few days ago on May 24, after a dental operation she did not wake up anymore...

Barbara must be a happy woman having had the company of such beautiful and interesting creatures who shared her life.

Max and Minette - we wish you farewell on your last voyage ....! You will be in good company, watch out for that special bearded guy surrounded by bears and wolves and...Say hello to our old friends Simba and Herr Nicholson...! More friends are going to join you all, but to that we will come later...!

Linus...

...from Northern Germany joined the Rainbow community already on Wednesday...This beautiful cat belonging to my friend Barbara and living in a community well known as the "Wilde 13" in the beginning, has certainly been just at the gate of Rainbowland, waiting for Satoru to arrive...

R.I.P. Linus and take good care of Satoru...

R.I.P. Satoru...and say hello to Simba...

Satoru, the beloved cat of my good friend Tim from Dostoy's blog joined the land behind the rainbow last night. He had to be euthanized after he developped a blood clot in his main artery.
Saturo was only 6 years old and shared the last 2 and a half years with Tim who got him from a shelter. I am sure they had such a wonderful time together...
...that even the rainbows will smile...

Farewell and R.I.P., Satoru!

For those who want to see Satoru, here a little video...

Aussenposten Regenbogenland....Rainbowland News...

Little Déesse, a young German shepherd with island ingredients who I wanted to present today to you as one of the Outpost's pets in the neighbourhood. But unfortunately this lively little one, so curious but not yet used to traffic, was killed early this morning by a car.
Farewell, little one, I will miss you, I won't forget the fun we had when playing
together in the afternoons...

This is Hope, the last polar bear from St.Louis Zoo . Hope, 23 and a half year old, had to be euthanized on Monday, March 30 because of a tumor in the liver which is not uncommon in polar bears (remember Olaf...). She had been living alone in the enclosure after her sister Penny died 3 years ago because of an uterine infection. The sisters were picked up from Cleveland Zoo in 1986, when Hope was just one year old, the staff named he sisters after 2 locations in the arctic circle near Greenland where polar bears are found in the wild:Penny Island and Point Hope.Hope was a playful polar bear who enjoyed all kind of enrichment toys, her red ball was her favourite one.

Here a photo I found today, Hope saying good-bye to visitors...

"It was feeding time for the bears at the St. Louis Zoo and this bear had just come out of the water (in full size you can see the waterdrops from the bear). The keeper told the bear to wave bye to the crowd. It did!"Although belated, now it's our turn to wave good-bye...R.I.P. Hope!

Little chimp George from Zoo Krefeld died of an inherently defect of the lungs and an underdeveloped cerebellum. This is the result of the pathological exams which has been published now after 3 weeks, assuming that these defects were connected with the late pregnancy of Mother Gombe who was already 34 (double it and you get the equivalent in human years) when she gave birth to George in September 2007 after a baby pause of 17 years.

In the beginning everything seemed fine, Gombe was a very caring mom but during the last months, the zoo staff was concerned about the fact that George stayed back in his development. A seperation of mother and baby would have been necessary to do the medical exams, the zoo decided for the relationship between mother and child.

After his death Gombe carried the dead baby 2 days before she left him somewhere in the enclosure. This behaviour made worldwide headlines in August 2008, when gorilla mum Gana refused to let go of the body of her dead 3 months old baby Claudio for 6 days, a behaviour which can be found in the wild too, sometimes even for weeks.

Thanks to Ulli J who made us aware of the death of little George in Krefeld!

These are Max and Moritz, the little lion offspring of Paule and Amira, born on October 31 2007. They warmed the hearts of a lot of zoo visitors. Now both cubs don't share any more our world. After Moritz had to be euthanised in October in consequence of hydrocephaly and other disorders which made a painless life impossible for him, his brother Max had to share the same destiny yesterday. During the past weeks he showed the same disorders.
Here Max together with his mom Amira, consoling him one day after the death of Moritz.
....Nun für immer zusammen... - Now forever together... -
Searching for infos about Max and Moritz on the net, I found these two 7 weeks old elks. This does not soften our grief about the little lions but maybe it makes us not forgetting the one's sharing our world hopefully a little longer. Kommt uns mal besuchen!
Hi, our names are Max and Moritz too, we live in the Tierpark. Come visit us!

Aussenposten Regenbogen
