Momente des Innehaltens und der Rückschau
Gedenken und Dank
Herbstzeitlose:
Diese Milde in der Luft,
herbstlich schon der Bodenduft,
Zeit der lila Herbstzeitlosen,
Nebelschleier über Rosen,
silbrig fällt das fahle Licht,
sanft durch Strauch und Bäume bricht,
leis rührt Herbstluft an den Zweigen,
grad als wollte sie mir zeigen
wie ein Blatt vom Baume fällt,
goldgelb, und verlässt die Welt,
während andre bunt zum Malen
von den Zweigen mich anstrahlen
wachgeküsst vom Sonnenlicht,
das sich in den Blättern bricht.
Seltsam, dieses bunte Strahlen,
so als freute sie das Fallen,
dieser letzte Schwebeflug,
durch den der Herbstwind sanft sie trug.

The videos of Knut and Thomas were very touching. It lead me to looking at recent Youtube stuff on Knut with his new harem. Two of the three females, one of them Katjuscha, looked heavy. Pregnant? Katjuscha definitely seemed the leader of the three and didn't welcome Knut's presence much at all. But then if she were pregnant, she'd be withdrawing from other bears' company, particularly male bears', at this point in order to establish her den. Do you know if cubs are expected?

Dear Diane,
Due to a lack of Internet access I was not able to report about the latest developments concerning Knut and the 3 ladies in time. No,neither Katjuscha nor the Tosca or Nancy are pregnant as they had been all without male partner during spring. Remember, Lars was relocated last year in October to Wuppertal to breed with Jerka who unfortunately died this year in June. The zoo expects some breeding activities with Knut by next spring which in my opinion is doubtful as for a male polar bear sexual maturity starts more often at 5 than at 4. Knut will be 4 this December.
I will post something about the last month asap.
I am sorry for that long pause!
