The article above is about how the zoos take care for their animals which can't stand cold temperatures. Beside elephants who risk their ears, certain bird species like storks and flamingos have to be brought into special winter protected quarters, they could easily break their legs on the slippery ice. Black panthers and jaguars need heat too. Everybody assumes that all penguins enjoy cold temperatures but not so the Humboldt penguins which have to have some extra straw in their caves.Some smaller apes get warming heat lamps in their enclosures. The zoos in general hope that the extreme temperatures will stop soon as it will have negative consequences on the well-being of a lot of animals in need of regular outdoor activity.
